Making Dreams Come True…
For African Orphans and At-risk Youth

Save one, save the future

On Saturday, December 13, 2008, over twenty-five members of Palm Beach Central High School’s Interact Club worked diligently washing cars at a local Applebee’s in Florida’s cool winter breeze, raising over $750 for their annual support of African orphan “Elizabeth”, whom they support through local non-profit Dream Sponsors, Inc. The Interact Club is a youth-driven extension of the Wellington Rotary Club. The group is headed by Carl Rosenberg, teacher at Palm Beach Central High School and senior student Danielle Kimelstein who serves as club president.

Dream Sponsors, Inc. is a tax-exempt non-profit based in Wellington and focuses on raising funds to provide emotional support and basic need supplies to help transform the dreams of needy Kenyan orphans into reality. The organization believes that by offering youth their basic needs, they are better able to focus on school studies and eventually find their way out of a pervasive cycle of poverty by achieving their career goals. Dream Sponsors, Inc. believes that by offering support with basic needs, extended family members are able to remain together and psychological attachments can be maintained, despite parental loss.

Elizabeth, now age eight, was orphaned at age three and lives with her elderly grandmother in the small farming village of Bunyore, located in Western Kenya. Before the support of Dream Sponsors, Inc. and the local Interact Club, she had never owned a pair of shoes and walked in excess of two miles in her bare feet just to attend school. She was reported to be very lethargic and unfocused due to lack of food. With the added support, Elizabeth has gained weight, walks to school in new shoes and is now doing very well in school. She was recently appointed the leadership position of Head Prefect in her class and rose to ranking number 17 out of 66 classmates. The Interact Club chose to sponsor Elizabeth and continues to be creative in developing fundraisers to help her advance in her academics.

In addition to raising funds, Dream Sponsors, Inc. seeks to raise the awareness of local youth regarding the issues of orphans throughout the world. Their goal is to teach students to “think globally and act locally”. For more information or to coordinate a presentation, contact Carla Neumann, President, Dream Sponsors, Inc. at 561-795-2223.
